About the system
AMINNOSYS is direct bridge between doctors, medical practitioners, pharmacies, laboratories, patients and their employers. Its an European eHealth system targeted at saving millions lives in Africa, especially those who can’t afford or live too far from hospitals. It advances Universal Health Coverage (UHC), antimicrobial stewardship and the fight against fake drugs.
We have developed a Medical Telemedicine, Prescription & Sick Leave System using chatbot SMS to fight against covid and sale of fake medication. We have 2 dedicated systems – one is for children and second one is for adults. In the future we plan have systems dedicated to other specializations, like cardiology etc.
AMINNOSYS is helping medical practitioners to generate electronic medical prescriptions and sick leaves documents. It also helps pharmacies to retrieve electronic medical prescriptions generated par medical practitioner.
One of our observations, namely that patients are going to marketplaces and roadsides to unconsciously buy fake, counterfeit and illegal medical drugs stacked on wooden racks and tables, openly displayed for sale was a crucial factor to start building AMINNOSYS.
Currently patients are given medical prescriptions on papers which sometimes get lost, or patients buy counterfeit medications on roadsides which not only result in a bad/longer treatment, but also put the patient’s life in danger.In this regard, our challenge was to find a new way to provide doctors, pharmacies (authorized sell points of medicines) and patients with a safe, reliable and secure way to manage prescriptions without the internet. So we have created a universal telecom service using SMS chat bot. This service would allow the issuance of electronic medical prescription without internet connection. This way, patients receive only encrypted prescription identifiers (with no medication listed) and only pharmacies or authorized sale points of medicines could read the list of medications prescribed. A pilot phase started in Douala Cameroon with very positive feedback from medical practitioners.

Making an appointment at the doctor
Patient who wants to have medical appointment is sending sms for a defined number. He is getting back the time of the nearest possible time when doctor can call him.

Appointment with doctor and prescribe medicine
Patient confirm the visit and in scheduled time doctor is calling him. When doctor prescribe medicine in the system, patient receive only encrypted prescription identifiers (with no medication listed) and only pharmacies or authorized sale points of medicines could read the list of medications prescribed.

Automated sick leave for employee and history of the patient
When doctor put sick leave in the system, employer will get this immediately on his email and phone number. System can be used the same way when you have a face to face visit with a doctor. And when you later go to the doctor or use telemedicine system, other doctor can see what medicines you have been given before.

Practical background
Medical prescriptions are in most cases the reason of our visits to hospitals in order to cure our illnesses. In African countries, medical prescriptions are written on papers and given to patients. The idea behind it is to provide patients with a list of medications and give them the possibility to buy medical drugs that will heal them.
One of our observations, namely that patients are going in marketplaces and roadsides to unconsciously buy fake, counterfeit and illegal medical drugs stacked on wooden racks and tables, openly displayed for sale was a crucial factor to start building the AMISYS (Automated Medical Innovation System). Another fact is that, sometimes medical practitioners need to check patient’s medical records which in most cases and for different reasons are not available.
The challenge was to find a new way to provide to doctors, pharmacies (authorized sell points of medicines) and patients with a safe, reliable and secure way to manage prescriptions without internet.
To face this challenge, we created a universal telecom service using SMS chat bot. This service would allow the issuance of electronic medical prescription without internet connection, it would help to assess the medical record of a given patient through patient’s prescription history.
One example scenario is a doctor in service at General Hospital of Ngousso Yaounde issuing a medical prescription. This doctor is not required to use a smartphone or any latest mobile technology device in order to issue electronic prescriptions. Just with a simple mobile phone and a SIM card or a dedicated electronic tablet, a doctor could be able to authorize himself in the system (using his credential), register a patient (name, phone number/ID number), generate prescriptions which could be retrieved by any pharmacy(or authorized sell point of medicines) in any city within the country. The doctor could be also able to check a patient prescription history. Patients receive prescription identifier/code without list of medications. Only pharmacies agents could be able to read prescription details using the prescription identifier/code and patient credentials and same here, no need of internet or smartphone.
